Maintenance work is largely limited to cleaning and lubricating the contacts, bearing points in the frame and cleaning of insulating parts. If the silver coating on the main circuit and the shunt circuit become hot over prolonged use, these must be replaced immediately.
Outdoor circuit breakers must be inspected after each short-circuit connection operation.Maintenance or repair work may be required due to unusual load.
Connection Operation
When the hinged insulator is moved in the connection direction, the contact arm moves with the contact plates enter the switch fork in the arc chamber.
Upon further movement, a spring-loaded mechanism inside the arc chamber will be activated, somewhat which turns on the vacuum switch.
Full current on the main contacts is not guaranteed until the end position is reached. In operating mode, the vacuum switch is bypassed.
During disconnection operation, the main contacts are first broken so that the current is fully connected with bypassed vacuum switch via the contact arm. When the disconnection operation continues, opens the vacuum switch in the arc chamber and switches the electricity. The OFF mode is then achieved when the contact system is at the correct, insulating distance. There are no external arcs visible during the switch operations.
