Axle load

This annex provides and overview of axle load and maximum speed on the Norwegian railway network, particularly dimensions and limitations.

Superstructure class, axle load and max speed

Note that axle load and speed values are based on the design parameters of the superstructure. The substructure and track geometry may in certain places restrict both the permitted speed and axle load. Consequently, the permitted axle load/speed on a given line section will not always correspond to the axle load/speed allowed by the superstructure class of that section. The superstructure class is determined on the basis of data (rail spacing and sleeper spacing) from BaneData.

Shorter subsections may have a higher superstructure class without affecting the applicable class of the overall line section. Kragerøbanen, Namsosbanen, Ålgårdbanen, and Tinnosbanen section Notodden–Tinnoset are not included in this list, as they are considered closed.
